Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree in English literature. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. Within two years she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist, as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. She covered many notable reports, including arms control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
